The B.O.M.B Squad

Retired but not too tired

The B.O.M.B. Squad has been building and maintaining hiking trails, bridges and other trail infrastructure in the Powell River B.C. area since 1988.

In 1986-87 local outdoor enthusiast Tony Matthews carved out a trail along the edge of Powell Lake to be able to access two local fishing lakes without having to drive. A couple of years later three friends, Roger Taylor, Jim Koleszar and Roy Hewitt joined him to build a bridge to complete the trail and as they say, the rest is history…

An Ode to the B.O.M.B
Squad by Helmut Godau

“Some fifteen years ago, about this time
Retired and restless men still in their prime,
Had an idea, the gumption and the grasp,
To build new trails and bridges that would last…”
